Surely the scenario and characters are still in copyright? But since the
intended reading age is given as 4-8, could it be a simplification of the
story for the younger readers?

I'm afraid this was done with the permission of the estate,
which apparently belongs to Lewis' stepson.

I am curious as to what the intended reading age was for
the original Narnia books. Probably 8 yrs old was in the
range?

Reality is for those who cannot cope with Middle-earth.

I first came across LWW at the age of 8 or 9 when it was read to us, a
chapter at a time, in school. I must say the story didn't make much sense
at the time - it's only when I read it for myself as an adult that I could
see how everything hung together.

Certainly "The Magician's Nephew" seems to be aimed at younger readers than
the rest of the series.

Oh my God. "Card catalog description
In the land of Narnia, Puddleglum the Marsh-wiggle and his niece Lally try
to outwit the giants who capture their two mice friends for a mice pie." And
the cover didn't exactly turn me on either. What a nightmare.

Let us save this for the next person who comes along and bitches about the
Tolkien Estate's not opening up Middle Earth to other authors.
